Is there a more important asset, in business or in life, than knowing who you are? This process could begin with a name that feels right, branching out into an identity in which you step into with confidence, rooted in a set of core principles that govern the language you use, the way in which you speak to clients, and, ultimately, how your clients think of you.

Branding is understanding your history and taking action in the present to create a better future. Every company is at a different stage of its journey, but work on understanding yourself is always beneficial in the long term. I believe I have a good process for helping companies of all kinds define and express their brand.

I’ve worked under many titles and enjoyed a range of responsibilities, but ‘Copywriter’ is probably the main one. A Copywriter uses words to market a brand, and I focus on two things above all else when doing that. The first is applying the power of a brand through words to ensure that whenever a company interacts with a customer they sound real and sincere.

The second is focussing on the audience and taking the time to understand the information they need to be ready to make a purchase. These two considerations are fundamental, but not all I do. Every new copywriting task requires new approaches to get the desired results, and what works for certain brands and in certain industries will not work for others.

Brands must communicate with audiences day to day, and my experience has focused on emails, newsletters, forums, and social media. Adopting a personal approach that is always consistent with the brand voice is key. I have been able to run social media channels and email campaigns for my clients that raise engagement and generate leads.

I won’t allow my clients to fall into the traps that many other companies do. You have to create value for the readers with everything you send them. Regarding social media, don’t jump on trends. Don’t try to go ‘viral’. There are no cheap gains. Consistent value matters most.

Since completing a workshop facilitation course in 2022, I have implemented workshops for many purposes in my work. They are excellent replacements for standard meetings and presentations, saving people’s time, making work more enjoyable, and actually getting things done during meetups.

The main benefit is how a simple 1-hour session can generate a multitude of ideas, share that with all the relevant people, and then select the approved idea so work can begin. This process can take weeks or months for some companies to get to the same idea, and I’ve found that everyone is on board with workshops as soon as they try one.
